Our 81st annual meeting will include elections, proposed national by-laws change, update on Equal Pay Day and Scholarships, national dues increase.  Need suggestions for potluck dish? Call Rita or Brenda.  Please also bring serving utensils.

February Branch Meeting

Branch Program for February:
The February program will be Saturday, February 17, 11AM, at the Hari Om Indian Cuisine restaurant, 1528 S. Cushman St.  This is a no-host luncheon with a speaker from UAF on the Green Dot program.  Details are being finalized and will be provided.  Please RSVP to Rita at ritaosborne@gmail.com, text to 907 750-0586 (please include name) or call 479-4535.  If you would like a ride, please let her know so arrangements can be made.

Join “March on Fairbanks” January 20, 2018

As mentioned in the branch email that was sent out earlier this month, instead of having a lunch for the branch this January, the Board decided to support the Women’s March this coming Saturday, January 20.

The time of the “March On Fairbanks” is now 11 am to 1 pm. Ritchie will have the AAUW Banner. Anyone marching please meet Ritchie at 10:45 am at the Lend Lease Monument and to dress warmly. If someone wants to participate but does not want to march, they can distribute cookies/hot drinks (need two people) at the Hub and one siting at the group information table at the Venue. Rally will take place from 11-1pm at Golden Heart Plaza, downtown on 1st ave. The Venue, Tap House, and The Hub are generously supporting local nonprofits providing tables for local nonprofits to share their work and for folks to warm up.

12-12:20 – Rally
12:20 – Group Photo
12:20-1 – Network with Local Nonprofits at 2nd Ave businesses.

December 2017 Holiday Potluck

AAUW Holiday Potluck and Gift Exchange/Gift Collection
Monday, December 18, 6 pm

This is our annual December get together. Ritchie has again offered to host at her beautiful log home.

Spouses, partners and guests are welcomed.

A main dish will be provided.  Please bring a side dish, bread or dessert.  Additional beverages are appreciated.

There will be a gift exchange for members and guests which is usually a mix of interesting and very interesting gifts, so bring a wrapped item. We also use this meeting as a way to donate to the Interior Center for Nonviolent Livingthrough a collection of gift type items for the Interior Center for Nonviolent Living so residents can provide gifts to others (please don’t wrap these).  Wrapping paper and ribbon/bows are also appreciated. They are in need of toys, winter gear, clothing, gift-cards, movie tickets, electronics and stocking stuffers.

Empowering Women November 2017 Branch Meeting

Empowering Women — Experiences In Burkina Faso
“Let’s Talk About Burkina Faso”

The American Association of University Women and The League of Women Voters Tanana Valley invite you to learn about experiences of two Fairbankans helping to empower women in a West African culture.
Peace Corps volunteer, Marilyn Russell, and dissertation researcher, Joy Morrison, both spent time in Burkina Faso, West Africa.  Russell in 2013-15 and Morrison in 1988-89.  They are both feminists who focused on strengthening rights of Burkinabé women and on family/health issues, and gender equity.
Russell served in the US Peace Corps and Morrison was with the Academy of Education Development.  They will share their experiences in West Africa with an interactive presentation with slides, materials and discussion.
